Updates 01/27/02 - Started the Ness FAQ ****************************************************************************************** Section II. Introduction Ness first appeared in the game Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan), an RPG released for the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom. His basic objective was to defeat the evil Giygas, who is trying to take over the world. Ness travels around Eagleland and places beyond, and meets up with some new friends who help him in his journey. Earthbound is a hilarious yet simple RPG that will keep you laughing, with humor ranging from fart jokes, strange enemies, and more. Ness made his second appearance in the original Super Smash Bros for the N64. He was a secret character, who was unlocked by defeating the game in Normal Mode without continuing. He is a medium speed character with the best throwing ability in the game, and the most strangest double and triple jump in the game. ****************************************************************************************** Section III. Basic Moves A button - Hook A button (2nd) - Straight A button (3rd) - Kick A (dashing) - PK Shove Left or Right A - Short Kick Up A - Push Up Down A - Squat Kick Smash Left or Right + A - Home Run Swing Smash Up A - Around the World Smash Down A - Walk the Dog A button (aerial) - Ness Spin Forward A (aerial) - Flying PK Shove Backward A (aerial) - PK Drop Kick Up A (aerial) - Jumping Headbutt Down A (aerial) - Meteor Kick Z (or R + A) - Grab A (or Z) (while holding) - Captive Headbutt Forward (while holding) - PK Throw Backward (while holding) - Reverse PK Throw Up (while holding) - Cowboy PK Throw Down (while holding) - PK Inferno ****************************************************************************************** Section IV. Special Moves B Button - PK Flash Ness generates a green spark of energy, which travels upwards. This move can be controlled by moving the control stick, but it can't travel far. Holding down the B button enables it to be controlled longer, and makes it stronger. Ness is very vulnerable when using this move, so use it with care. If it hits a platform, or if Ness is hit when in the middle of executing this, the spark energy will be ineffective. Smash B - PK Fire Ness tosses a spark of energy toward the opponent, and upon contact, a column of fire engulfs them and slowly damages them. Up B - PK Thunder You can control the path of this move with the control stick. It can reach enemies from a great distance. This move can be used as a third jump, by controlling the thunder ball to hit Ness. It won't cause any damage to him, and anyone that makes contact with him will be sent flying. Down B - PSI Magnet Use this to absorb energy attacks from enemies (Fox's Blaster, Pikachu's Thunder Jolt, Mewtwo's Shadow Ball, etc.) as well as items (Ray Gun, Charizard's Flame). The attacks will heal Ness instead of damaging him. ****************************************************************************************** Section V. Classic Mode Stage 1: Normal Melee - Ness battle opponents one-on-one in their respective home stage. Stage 2: Team Melee- Ness and a computer controlled partner battle two computer controlled opponents. Stage 3: Bonus Stage: Break the Targets! - Break 10 targets in 2 minutes, using Ness's regular and special attacks. Stage 4: Normal Melee - Same as Stage 1, but your opponent is a little harder Stage 5: Giant Melee - Ness and 2 other normal sized computer controlled characters battle against one giant-sized opponent. Stage 6: Bonus Stage - Snag the Trophies - 3 trophies fall down from the sky, and you have to hit them to land in the funnel-like container in the middle of the stage. Any trophy that lands inside the funnel will be yours in the gallery. Stage 7: Normal Melee - Same as Stage 4, but your opponent is a little harder Stage 8: Multi-Man Melee - Ness battle 10 opponents (three at a time) in their home stage. The opponents are weak and relatively easy to knock off the stage. Stage 9: Bonus Stage - Race to the Finish - Ness races through a giant disaster filled stage and try to get to a door at the end of the stage. If you feel you cannot make the end door, you can enter several other doors along the way, but you won't be rewarded as much if you enter one of the earlier doors. My suggestion for Ness to get to the final door is to take the bottom path when you come to the fork in the road. Stage 10: Metal Melee - You battle against a metallic version of an opponent in the Battlefield Stage. They are slow, but hit harder than their normal counterparts. Stage 11: Master Hand - You battle Master Hand on the Final Destination Stage, and depending on the difficulty, he will have a different set number of HP. If you are playing on Normal mode or harder, and you complete the first 10 stages in 15 minutes or under, Crazy Hand joins in the battle, after you wear down Master Hand to half his HP. ****************************************************************************************** Section VI. Adventure Mode Stage 1: Mushroom Kingdom - Battle Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Koopa Paratroopas in a Super Mario Bros. like stage. If you defeat a random enemy, you will be rewarded with a trophy, and you can also pick one up along the way. In the middle of the stage, you will battle 10 Yoshis, and you can't advance until you defeat all 10. My suggestion is to use Ness's Forward smash attack to send the Yoshi's flying. At the end of the level, you will have to fight Peach and Mario (or Peach and Luigi if your finishing time in the stage is xx:x2:xx). Try to stay in the center of the stage, and swat them away with your smash attacks. ****************************************************************************************** Section VII. Event Mode (complete later) ****************************************************************************************** Section VIII. Home Run Contest Ness comes with his own baseball bat, but why he can't hit that sandbag as far as most other players can. Start the match by grabbing the bat, and immediately hit it with a regular A attack. Then do a PK Fire. The sandbag will float in the air while being damaged by the fire. Jump up and do a Down + A attack to smash it to the ground. Repeat the PK Fire/Aerial Down A until the bag is above 80%. Hit the bag at maximum contact distance (as far away from the bag as you can while still being able to hit it). My record is 1114.5 ft ****************************************************************************************** Section IX. Break the Targets
